Calling all Pickleballers! The Kananaskis Pickleball League is now in full swing, and we want to see your wicked dinks and killer serves on our scenic mountain courts. Pickleball rackets and ball rentals are covered under your resort fee, and courts are first come serve.
Plus, while you’re here, explore the our exclusive line of Kananaskis Pickleball League gear at Little Detour, so you can make your city pickleball buddies green with envy.
What you’ll need:
- Pickleball paddle – covered under your resort fee, see concierge.
- A plastic ball with holes (similar to a wiffle ball).
Sizzling serves:
- The serve must be made underhand.
- The server must keep one foot behind the baseline during the serve.
- Make your serve diagonally crosscourt and land in the opposite diagonal service court.
- Your ball must clear the non-volley zone (also called the kitchen) and land in the correct service court.
- Only one serve attempt is allowed, except in the event of a let (ball touches the net on the serve and lands in the proper service court).
Getting started:
- At the beginning of the game, only one partner on the serving team has a turn to serve.
- After the first fault, both partners on the serving team get turns to serve before the serve switches to the opposing team.
- Partners switch sides after each point is won.
How to score (and, ultimately win):
- Only the serving team can score points.
- Games are typically played to 11 points, win by 2.
- Points are scored when the opposing team faults (e.g., ball goes out of bounds, ball does not clear the net).
Double bounce rule:
- Each team must play their first shot off the bounce.
- After the ball has bounced once on each side, players can either volley the ball (hit it before it bounces) or play it off a bounce.
No cooks in the kitchen (non-volley zone):
- The non-volley zone extends 7 feet from the net on both sides (see image)
- Players cannot volley the ball while standing in the non-volley zone.
- Players can enter the non-volley zone to play a ball that has bounced, but must exit before volleying again.
Faults:
- Hitting the ball out of bounds.
- Not clearing the net.
- Stepping into the non-volley zone and volleying the ball.
- Volleying the ball before it has bounced once on each side.
Lastly, have fun and don’t forget to snap a pic of you and your teammates post game! #Kananaskispickleballleague
